Happy Half Birthday, Madelynn!!

6 months old.... Wow!! She is growing up so fast!! Here are some highlights:
  • Madelynn has TWO teeth! The first one came in on Valentine's Day and the other less than a week later.
  • She rolls from one side of the family room to the other.
  • She loves her feet and is curious about everything.
  • Madelynn cracks herself up! She'll do something and giggle loudly!
  • She's working on new sounds ... "oo", "p", "b", and "w" are the most recent. Of course, we are looking forward to "ma" and "da"!
  • It's almost time to start pulling out the 9 month clothes. We'll find out her height and weight at her doctor's appointment on Friday.
  • Madelynn is loved by many. She is really enjoying her time with Grandpa and Tutu and her cousins while Mommy and Daddy are at work! And Mommy and Daddy can't wait to get home to see her.

Valentine's Day and the Klingenbergs

Madelynn's first Valentine's Day was very eventful. Her first tooth popped up (yay!), and she drove 17.5 hours to central California with Grandpa, Grandma, and Mom for Great-Grandma's memorial service. Overall she did very well. We will all miss Great-Grandma very much!!

Adventures in Swaddling

Some of you reading this will laugh, but swaddling has been an adventure in our house! When Madelynn was born, she wouldn't sleep anywhere except on me. We tried to swaddle her, and she would immediately wiggle out of it ... like the picture below.

When she was 4 weeks old, we started double swaddling her (along with giving formula and using a noise machine!) and she immediately began sleeping on her own in her cradle. Mommy was so happy to get several hours of good sleep! Soon she was sleeping 8-12 hours, so we moved her into her crib at 6 weeks.

Still double swaddling, Madelynn was so happy and so rested ... so were Mommy and Daddy!

At 4 months, Madelynn started to break out of the swaddle again. She wanted to chew on her fingers. So, we began to single swaddle her and do a few nap times completely unswaddled. That definitely took some getting used to for Madelynn!! She'd get frustrated because she wanted her hands, but she couldn't fall back asleep without being swaddled!

Last Monday I decided to see if she'd sleep better at night without the swaddle. Although she woke up several times during the night (one morning about 4:00 I went in because I heard her "talking" and she had her feet up on the crib, smiling, and enjoying herself!), she woke up less than when she was swaddled .... :)

And last night, she slept 12+ hours without waking up at all!! YAY!! :)

Leavenworth 2010

We started 2010 with our annual trip to Leavenworth with Ken and Jennifer and families. This year we had a couple additions ... of course Madelynn bundled up in the cold and Grandpa and Grandma joined us! The snow was beautiful, the Enzian Inn is great, and we had a wonderful time!

Madelynn and Jennifer ... couldn't convince Lana to join them!
